    Primary research areas:

    • Phenomenology (mainly Husserl and Merleau-Ponty)
    • Philosophy of cognitive science
    • Embodied cognitive science

My PhD project is focused on embodiment and sociality from a phenomenological point of view, and I aim at integrating empirical and theoretical approaches to better understand the social aspects of cerebral palsy. My starting points are the developments of Husserl and Merleau-Ponty, and embodied cognitive science.

Part of my research takes place in collaboration with the Helene Elsass Center, in Copenhagen.

    Supervisor: Dan Zahavi

    Co-Supervisor: Kristian Martiny

    Current research

I am currently investigating on the possibility to enrich the theory of affordances through  a phenomenological account of embodiment and sociality. For a more detailed description, please see my post in the blog of the Center for Subjectivity Research at http://cfs.ophen.org/2017/11/02/juan-toro-embodiment-theory-affordances/
